Intro to Python in 7200 sec

3pm - 5pm, Thursday, April 23, 2026

From your first line of code through lists, dictionaries, loops, and functions. This spiffy intro is designed to jump start your work with the Python programming language. The topics covered are appropriate for applications in wide range of programming tasks including numerical data analysis, web scraping, machine learning, large language models, and more. Participants are expected to bring a laptop and engage with programming challenges during the session. You can expect to leave with a conceptual understanding of introductory-level methods in Python programming.

In addition to the main content, the materials for the workshop will include numerous practice exercises, instructions for setting up your environment, and an introduction to common data analysis tools like pandas and matplotlib.

Before attending, make an account on Github.com. The instructor will set up a virtual codespace with all the software you need and show you how to access it when you arrive. Bring to the event any computer with internet access and a modern web browser (e.g. chrome).
