PyCharm
PyCharm is the most popular IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for Python. Beyond simple python scripts written in a text editor or Jupyter Notebook/Lab, there needs to be something to manage multiple files with the ability to compare them, debug them, build release packages, deal with automating documentation, requirements, versioning and so much more. This is where PyCharm becomes a python developer's best friend.
In This Workshop, we will focus on setting up a PyCharm development environment and work through creating a dummy multi-file project. Along the way we will explore various tools that will help you as you work on your code such as refactoring, comparing files, running your code. We will look at debugging with a real tracing debugger, not a poor man’s shotgun. We will also briefly discuss adding documentation, requirement files, and versioning with Github.
Requirements. A light background in Python will be extremely helpful but not necessarily required. We will cover the free Community version of PyCharm which can be obtained here: https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/download It will be HIGHLY beneficial to have this downloaded and installed before the workshop starts. Instructions on how to do this will be provided and special Consulting Time made available if needed.
*Please watch for a reminder email two hours before the workshop which will contain the zoom link. If you do not see one, please email crdds@colorado.edu.
