Beyond Excel - An Introduction to data visualization and analytics with Tableau

Beyond Excel is a rich and vast world just dying to take your data to the next level. Tableau is a data visualization and visual analytics application which lets you connect to your data quickly allowing you to explore your data and create graphs and maps within minutes using drop and drag workflows with no programming required. The real strength of Tableau is the user’s ability to add in highly interactive plots using customizable dashboards allowing for rich layouts making the results of your work publically available with Tableau's web services.

In this workshop we will explore the insanely quick and easy way Tableau allows you to explore your data and in just a few minutes create rich interactive dashboards. If you have been following the Excel workshops be prepared to be awe struck!

No previous experience or knowledge with Tableau, data visualization, or programming knowledge is required. including many personal exercises.

Prerequisites: We will be strictly covering the free 'Public Tableau'. This will be a hands-on workshop so please make sure you have Tableau installed https://public.tableau.com/en-us/s/ before the workshop starts. Any version is sufficient, but we will only work with the content available in the free version. However, we will discuss the massive benefits of the paid versions. If you have any questions or problems, please come see us during the CRDDS consulting hours on Tuesdays 12-2pm in Norlin E206.
