Making your own Maps, Part I

Part I: Preparing your Basemap; Adding & Symbolizing Data in a GIS.

Learn to create professional looking maps for your research projects, presentations, and publications. We’ll cover the cartography industry’s standard programs and workflows, combining GIS with design software. Topics covered will include map conventions, symbolization, color theory, typography, and layout. (Note: this series will focus on creating static, printable maps).

Some experience with ArcGIS or QGIS is helpful, but not required. We will go over the basics.
