Wrangling Textual Data

This workshop is the second in a series of digital humanities workflow classes. It focuses on making digital documents “machine-readable,” meaning analyzable by computational and digital humanities software. The use of free and accessible optical character recognition (OCR) software will be demonstrated, and learners will have the opportunity to use this software to OCR their own documents. The basics on cleaning up OCR’d documents will also be discussed. Learners will become familiar with the process of preparing digital documents for analysis with digital humanities software.
