Installing Software on Alpine with Spack (an RC Primer)

Installing Software on Alpine with Spack (an RC Primer)

Research Software on HPC systems vary in many different ways. This can often be a bottleneck for researchers wanting to scale their work from their local desktop to a large scale computing cluster. In this introductory workshop we will introduce one of the most popular and useful package managers available, Spack. In this RC Primer*, we will cover how to use Spack to install and deploy compilers, software, and virtual environments on Alpine. At the end of this workshop participants should have an idea of how to begin using Spack on the Alpine HPC system.

In order to follow along with the hands-on component of this workshop, you’ll want to have a research computing account and a very basic understanding of Linux. We will  be available for CRDDS Office Hours immediately after this training for any follow-up questions.

* What is an RC Primer?: An RC Primer is a session that provide an introduction to concepts, systems, and tools. You can expect to leave "Primers" with an introductory-level understanding of the topic.
