A Quick Tour of openalexR

A Quick Tour of openalexR

Thursday, January 8, 11am - 12:30pm

OpenAlex is an open-source catalog of a wide range of bibliometric and scholarly communication data that can serve as a valuable resource for various types of meta-research (i.e. research about research). The openalexR package is an R package that allows users to call the OpenAlex API, and directly import relevant bibliometric data from OpenAlex into R, where it can subsequently be processed, analyzed, and visualized using a variety of commonly used R packages and functions. The Workshop provides a quick guide to extracting OpenAlex data into R via openalexR, and surveys basic techniques for working with this data in R. Participants who complete the workshop will be equipped to use R to extract and work with basic bibliometric data in their fields of interest. All are welcome, but the workshop presupposes elementary prior knowledge of the R programming language and familiarity with R Studio.
