AMD Software Development Ecosystem with GPUs

AMD Software Development Ecosystem with GPUs

These two-hour training sessions will introduce participants to the ROCm software ecosystem for porting and developing applications to run on AMD InstinctTM GPUs. Participants will learn about the ROCm software development languages, libraries, and tools. They will also get a developer's view of the hardware that powers the system. This workshop will focus mostly on how to program applications to run on the GPU.

Participants will be expected to have prior experience developing HPC applications, some understanding of recent HPC computer hardware and the Linux operating system.

There will be two training sessions. This first one will focus on the general software development tools.

Programming Languages and Compilers
- HIP – the native language for the AMD GPUs
- Using Hipify to convert CUDA code to HIP
- Using OpenMP offloading as a pragma-based approach to GPU programming
- Fortran language approaches – HIPFort and OpenMP/FLang
- Python approaches
